The Abyss of Forgotten Things
Memory is not a narrative.
It is not made of forms, but of sediments of sensation—
a nonverbal residue that sometimes lingers longer than a face.
That residue can erupt like an explosion,
and what remains is dust—
particles of emotion that settle over me for a long time.
My work is an exploration of that structure of memory.
I forget faces, but emotions remain.
Those emotions seep into me as colors, temperatures, and fragmented images,
accumulating within as formless traces.
This series is an act of recalling those intangible fragments
onto the surface of the canvas.
Faceless figures, objects left as remnants of relationships,
the density of unformed emotion—
these fragments are not memories in the traditional sense,
but they are the actual sculptural elements that make up who I am.
I no longer paint “portraits” of people,
but rather the temperature of relationships, the rhythm of habits,
and the tremors of emotions that have yet to dry.
This work is a history of sensations—
an attempt to organize, through color and structure,
emotions that precede memory,
and shocks that precede language.
Memory does not flow.
It drifts.
It does not move linearly through time,
but distorts, sinks, and scatters.
These fragments may appear disconnected in form,
but they are drawn from the same emotional depth.
Each is a resolution of the unconscious,
a surface of unerasable wounds,
a slice of the being that composes me now.
Through this work, I no longer turn away.
I seek, at last, to reconcile with the dense emotions
and the deep abyss of memory.
